It was a case of last-minute victory for former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, as his name appeared as candidate of the APC for Akwa Ibom North-West senatorial district on the list just released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Senate President Ahmad Lawan may have, however, finally lost out in his bid to return to the red chamber following the omission of his name from the final list of candidates for next year’s Presidential and National Assembly Elections published by the electoral body.

INEC, in the final list of candidates published on Tuesday, also listed Atiku Abubakar of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bola Tinubu of All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peter Obi of Labour Party (LP), and others as presidential candidates for next year’s poll.

In the circular released by the electoral body on Tuesday afternoon, INEC also published the candidates’ state of origin, age, and other details.

Fifteen other presidential candidates were also on the list, along with their running mates as well as their qualifications.

Equally released by the electoral umpire was the final list of recognised candidates for the 2023 National Assembly election.
