Delta government on Thursday approved the setting up of environmental sanitation taskforce to enhance the cleanliness of the State.

This was part of the decisions reached at the State Executive Council meeting presided over by the Secretary to State Government, Chief Patrick Ukah at Government House, Asaba.

In a post Exco briefing, the Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu said Exco directed the Ministry of Justice to harmonize all existing laws on environmental sanitation.

“We examined quite a number of issues bordering on the development of our people and we started by taking a look at a report by a committee chaired by the Deputy governor that was mandated to look into issues of environmental sanitation in Delta.

“In the course of that report, we felt that there is a need to have state environmental task force that would be charged with the responsibility of coordinating a number of agencies, saddled with the responsibilities of keeping our environment clean.

“The committee also recommended that there is need to harmonise existing laws that regulates issues bordering on sanitising our environment, all in a view to making our environment clean.
