Mr Doyin Okupe on Thursday withdrew from the position of Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections.
Okupe, a former presidential spokesman, made the announcement on Thursday in a tweet sighted by metrowatchxtra.
His withdrawal from the race is coming as the presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi readies to announce a substantive running mate. Okupe was only “standing in” for the would-be candidate.
metrowatchxtra reports that the LP had submitted Okupe’s name to beat INEC’s deadline for the submission of names of candidates by political parties.
“This afternoon I submitted my withdrawal letter from the position of the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party to INEC,” Okupe tweeted.
“A replacement will be announced by the national chairman of the party shortly.
“I feel greatly blessed to have been part of the foundation of success for the Labour Party.”
