The next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will now take place in January/February 2024 and no longer from the June/July next year’s initial date.
metrowatchxtra reports that the decision was taken by Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) during a meeting held in Rabat, Morocco, on Sunday.
It was gathered that the tournament was postponed from the June/July 2023 initial date due to concerns over the rainy season in Cote D’Ivoire, the host nation.
According to the President of CAF, Patrice Motsepe, the host country remains Cote D’Ivoire.
Motsepe also announced that the Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) prize money has now been increased by 150 per cent to $500,000.
This is even as CAF equally announced that the African Super League will commence in August 2023 in Tanzania.
