Executive Director at the World Bank Group for the Russian Federation, Roman Marshavin, has exalted Secretary-General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Dr. Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo, for his achievements at the organization.
Barkindo, incumbent secretary-general of OPEC, was appointed in August 2016. His tenure comes to an end this July.
Marshavin, in a letter to Barkindo, said:
“Under your leadership and guidance, the OPEC was transformed into one of the most impactful international organizations in the world”.
Full text of the statement
“I would like to offer my most sincerely congratulations on the completion of your appointment with the OPEC.
I am certain it has been a very satisfying and enjoyable experience for you, as well as rewarding in terms of personal growth.
Under your leadership and guidance, the OPEC was transformed into one of the most impactful international organizations in the world, I am also grateful for your role in the historic signing of the OPEC deal with Russia and, other major producers.
This agreement helped ensure unprecedented and prolonged stability on the oil markets, propelling global economic growth and facilitating fast economic recovery even during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moreover, it created relations based on trust between OPEC and non-OPEC producers, which are spreading to other spheres and strategic matters.
I believe the OPEC’s mission becomes even more crucial today as we’re diving deeply into the green energy transition.
Inexperienced policymakers might be unaware of the intricacies of global energy markets and the complex interlinkages between energy, development, and sustainability.
Your strong voice in support of fossil fuels has ‘been invaluable for producer and consumer countries.
It is my hope that your wisdom and the vision for a great OPEC will persist long after your departure.
For me, you have always been an inspiring example of a skilled and very talented professional, but also of a loyal and genuine friend.
Because of your hospitality, OPEC headquarters indeed turned into a second home for my Russian colleagues and me.
In times like these, your personal qualities, like commitment to people’s best interests, and true devotion to every job you do, are very much needed.
I wish you the best of luck in all your future endeavors.
I will always he happy to meet you, whether I’m here, in Washington, or Moscow or anywhere else”.
