The Peoples Democratic Party has finally reacted to viral reports of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike’s meeting with All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu in France.
On Thursday, Mr Joe Igbokwe, an APC chieftain, via Facebook, claimed Wike met with Tinubu in France, amid speculations about the impending defection of the Rivers State governor to the ruling party.
Since the selection of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as the PDP vice presidential candidate for the 2023 elections by the party’s standard bearer, Atiku Abubakar, there has been an uneasy calm in the main opposition party.
But reacting, a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the PDP Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri, who spoke on behalf of the national party leadership faulted the report of Wike’s meeting with Tinubu.
He said he has been with the Rivers State Governor in Istanbul, Turkey and nothing of such meeting ever took place.
“Governor Wike came directly from Nigeria to Istanbul, Turkey. He did not go to France as speculated. This is to debunk the propaganda of the APC through Igbokwe. This is fake news orchestrated by the sinking ruling party which is on its way out,” Waziri was quoted by The Nation Reporters as saying.
Asked what their mission to Istanbul was, the PDP BoT member said; “What is your business with our mission? We came to rest after our national convention. Of course, as a political animal, I do politics anywhere I find myself.”
