The Oyo State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, announced impeachment proceedings against the embattled deputy governor of the state, Rauf Olaniyan.
This came barely weeks after Olaniyan, who has been at loggerhead with his boss, Gov. Seyi Makinde, formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
At Wednesday’s plenary presided over by the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, a notice of a 5-point petition and allegation against the deputy governor was formally adopted.
Some of the allegations raised against Olaniyan include gross misconduct, abuse of abuse, financial recklessness, abandonment of office/official duty, insubordination and other offences.
The petition addressed to the Speaker of the Assembly was signed by 24 members of the House. Only the lawmaker representing the deputy governor’s constituency abstained.
The Speaker subsequently directed the Clerk of the House, Mrs Yetunde Awe to write the deputy governor mandating him to respond to the allegations within seven days.
