THE Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpol, Ewuare II has urges the Neo Black Movement of Africa (NBM) to live up to its aim of protection of African culture and beliefs in their activities.
Oba Ewuare II stated this in his palace when he received leaders and members of the group led by its National President, Olorogun Ese Kakor who paid him a courtesy visit and informed the monarch of the group’s 43rd Annual Convention which is holding in Benin City.
He urged them to raise the bar of protecting the normative system and cultural values of Benin kingdom. “I have read about the group, you said you are a humanitarian group; you act like the protector of the cultural norms and values. I want to congratulate you, I hear you have been around for many years and you are all over the globe.
We want to assure you of our support of your activities as you have supported the activities on the palace, I want you to continue in your good works to be protecting, supporting the cultural values, normative system, you need to be educated about own cultural and normative system so that wherever you see it being broken, you will be on hand to support and keep it steadfast.
Kakor said the aim of the group is to redirect the reorientation of young people from crime, fraud and other vices. “I want to appeal that you take us as your children,we are not law breakers, there are different notions about what NBM is on the internet. It is a non tribal, non-religious organisation.”
Before the visit, the group had commissioned the renovated Adolor Primary School, Okabere in Ikpoba-Okha local government area and donated chairs and tables and other learning materials. This they said is part of their Corporate Social Responsibility to the society.
The president said the project was part of their responsibility to the society. “We are here to celebrate our national convention and as part of our contributions to the society, we have changed the roof of the school and provided classroom chairs, classroom tables, and books for the children. We are also going to provide toilets for them. We are celebrating our 43rd annual convention, and whenever we do that we look for a project that will have an impact on the common man, because MBA is a humanitarian organization .The classrooms were in a bad state. We come here because we know that we can’t leave everything into the hands of the government.”
In her appreciation, the Headteacher, Mrs. Florence Ogbeide “I must appreciate you for the way you provided for these children, even the community is happy. You people have come to rescue us, thanks so much.”
