Sen. Yahaya Gumau of the All Progressives Congress will not be returning to the Senate in 2023 after being edged out of the Bauchi South nomination race by Alhaji Shehu Buba Umar.
Umar polled 188 votes to beat senator Gumau who polled 182 votes in the primary election that held in Bauchi in the early hours of Monday.
Others contestants were Mr Yusuf Ladan who polled four votes, Dr Safiya Iliyasu and Mr Ibrahim Zailani scored zero.
Gumau first became a Senator via a bye-election in 2018, after the death of Senator Ali Wakili.
In the election, he trounced the PDP opponent Ladan Salihu, by winning 119, 489 votes. Salihu of the Peoples Democratic Party received 50, 256 votes.
He was re-elected in 2019.
