PRESS STATEMENT
Yesterday May 23rd, 2022, our Dear Edo South Senatorial Ad-Hoc and National Delegates through the ballot at our PDP Senatorial party primaries, overwhelmingly gave Rt. Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama their mandate to represent them at the 2023 Senatorial Elections.
It was a day we should have been celebrating, but we have been in deep pain due to the unfortunate demise of one of us.
Our dear brother, Mr. Tunde Igbinoba, Chairman of Ward 5 Oredo PDP, passed on as he made his way into his car after the historic exercise, and encountered the mayhem unleashed on citizens and delegates by thugs.
He was our friend, brother, loyal and dependable ally, a leader, and a very central member of our ‘Political Family for so many years.
What pains us more than his passing is the manner in which he left. All ‘Uncle T’ wanted to do was express his commitment to democratic processes and ensure that his people got the best representation they deserved. He didn’t deserve to lose his life for that noble act.
We must be reminded again as players in the political space that we must always embrace the path of peace, tolerance, dialogue, and camaraderie as we engage ourselves in activities targeted at improving the lot of our people.
As an Organisation we have always risen above such crude and uncultured brand of politics and that is why we condemn strongly yesterday’s attack on our party members, mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters as well as journalists and other innocent citizens.
We express our deep condolences to our leader Tunde Igbinoba’s family. Words fail us! But at this time we pray God gives them the strength to bear the loss of their father.
Additionally, the results of our primaries have turned up across the State and we must now unite as one family to confront the coming political contest to ensure that our dear party-The Peoples Democratic Party continues to enjoy the confidence of our people and will lead to victory in next year’s elections.
We express our deep gratitude to our Delegates for this victory. Your unshakeable faith and confidence in our Principal (Rt.Hon Ogbeide-Ihama) will not be regretted.
We thank our Edo South party leadership for a smooth, free, fair, and credible process.
We thank the officials from INEC representing all Local Governments under the Senatorial Districts and from their Head Office in Abuja who monitored the elections.
Our gratitude also goes to all the security personnel who ensured we had a safe environment up until the unfortunate incident which occurred as our Dear Delegates made their way home and were attacked and brutally assaulted by agents of illegality!
We thank the brave members of the Press for their coverage of our exercise.
Finally, we Congratulate Rt. Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama- The PDP Edo South Senatorial Candidate on his well-earned election to fly the Party’s flag for Edo South Senatorial District Elections in 2023
It’s a new dawn for Edo South. Let’s do more for more.
