Africans Rising has reflected the need for renewed unity amongst Africans all over the world to own, control and manage African affairs.

A statement at the weekend said: “Africans Rising is pleased to announce that the week from 23rd – 29th May has been declared as African Liberation Week. This is the first of its kind and this year’s mobilisation will run under the theme “Africa for Africans” and reflects the need for renewed unity amongst Africans all over the world
to own, control and manage our own affairs.”

The statement further read that: “Each year, African Liberation Day is recognized on May 25th to promote unity and solidarity among African people and states. The commemoration is an opportunity to mobilise all Africans to take action on specific themes or issues relevant to the local as well as continental contexts.

“Africans Rising utilises the whole week of May 25th to ensure that Africans across the globe can take part in this commemoration, and to explore a breadth of issues
facing African communities.”

The statement said: “Along with our theme this year, we are recognizing the following sub-themes:

Decolonization – capturing the unfinished business of decolonization; Gender justice – ensuring gender equality in carving the Africa We Want; Health – equitable access to quality healthcare amid COVID-19; and Climate and Environmental Justice – advancing the push for climate and environmental justice towards the #AfricaWeWant.”

Individuals or organisations are called to register their events for that week on: https://bit.ly/3JVHVhe
