Famous Maiduguri plank seller Agha Yusuf was buried on Sunday amidst myriads of questions on why he was killed and when the murderers will be fished out.
Lots of questions on the lips of many sympathizers including Governor Babagana Zulum who visited his family to condole them for the sad loss.
Questions like why was he killed? Lots of mourners asked as they marched towards the Christian cemetery behind the EYN Church Kasua Fara, in the outskirts of Maiduguri where Agha Yusuf was buried on Sunday.
The late Yusuf, a 47 year old plank seller was alleged to have just secured a juicy contract from Governor Babagana Zulum his long time friend whom he had done business with since the days he was the Commissioner of Reconstruction Reconcilliation Rehabilliation RRR under Governor Kashim Shettima.
” You know Zulum, he is not afraid to take decisions that will always benefit his people. It was said that each time he asked his late friend Agha for supplies, he got exactly what he wanted. So this time around, he was said to have transferred a very juicy multi million naira contract to him from a defaulting contractor.
“This obviously was what sparked annoyance in the other camp leading to this dangerous anger and his murder. We are not aware he has bad friends or is involved in dangerous deals which could make anyone want to send hired assassins to terminate his life as they did on the 10th of March.
“The man was a philanthropist to the core because it was not in his character to watch anyone complain of hunger, thirst or even a job where he can afford to provide for the person” said a close source to the late Yusuf.
Hundreds of mourners within the Shagari Low Cost Housing Estate along the outskirts of Maiduguri Sunday afternoon kept asking why their friend Agha was killed.
The question was a recurring one as they chorused in Hausa In the cemetery because as a plank seller, the entrepreneur had touched many lives some of whom had become direct beneficiaries of his humanitarian gestures from their transition from Internally Displaced People (IDPs) to normal residents eking their own living.
Hundred of friends and well-wishes scampered to the Christian burial ground on Sunday to witness the burial of their friend Yusuf Agha who they say touched many lives before he died.
He is survived by a wife, children and many dependants.
