The Chairman, Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Borno state council, Comrade Yusuf Inuwa, has commended Governor Babagaba Zulum for considering workers’ benefits in the 2022 budget.
Comrade Inuwa told www.metrowatchxtra.com in an exclusive Interview that the injection of funds into the system for labor was a demand they have pursued for a long time especially the leave transportation grant.
The chair however stressed that there are so many other workers demands pending such as annual increment and promotion but they were happy that as at December 2021, all pensioners whose take home was less than 50,000 have been settled.
“We are happy that the Governor has sympathized with serving workers and retired senior citizens by fulfillment of some of his pledges which have been captured in the 2022 budget.
” We are indeed happy that the leave transport grant has been awarded to make our workers happy this year. Indeed we have been asked to submit all the demands of labour from 2016 till date but in our thinking, that N700m approved for 2022, will accommodate only one year of our workers demands. However we really appreciate the grant efforts of the government.
” But the bulk of those whose pension are above 50,000 are still pending from 2016. I am saying that all workers who retired on or before 2016 have received full payments of gratuities so we are expecting the Governor to continue to improve on this profile.
“We have submitted the grants omissions
of 2019 and we believe the government would be able to handle it. For now we have four pressing demands including the leave transport allowances and lingering delayed promotion and leave grants for 2020 and 2021.
” It is our belief that the government should be able to pay backlogs of promotion from 2016 till date because this is what will motivate the workers.” The chairman stressed.
