The Nigeria Police, Ekiti Command, on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of 105 people suspected to be political thugs travelling to Ekiti for the gubernatorial primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

ASP. Sunday Abutu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, made this known to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti.

Abutu said that the suspects were being brought to the state in five 18-seater passengers fully loaded before they were intercepted.

He said the suspected hoodlums were travelling along the Osun end of the Ijebu-Ijesa-Itawure, Ekiti Road axis, when they were arrested on Tuesday night at a military checkpoint mounted at Itawure.

Abutu said the suspects were caught armed with dangerous weapons, including locally made pistols and cutlasses.

“They were arrested at a military checkpoint mounted at Itawure.

“They were loaded with five 18-seater passenger buses coming from another state to Ekiti as the primaries of parties were about to hold.

“The suspects are still with the military personnel and it is expected that they will be handed over to us soon,’’ he said.

Abutu assured the people that detectives would do thorough investigation about the incident and prosecute those involved.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), conducts its governorship primary today, Wednesday, the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), holds theirs, tomorrow, Thursday.
