An operative of Ebubeagu Security outfit, Mr Sunday Nwafor, has been reportedly beheaded by unknown gunmen at Ekpelu in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
News Express learnt that the armed-wielding hoodlums had stormed the home of Nwafor and shot him dead on Saturday night.
The assassins after killing the operative, dragged his corpse outside his home, where he was beheaded and fled with his head.
In a similar development, officials of a local security outfit have allegedly tortured a robbery suspect, Nnaogo Akpoke Anyim, to death in Ivo Local Government Area of the state.
The incident which resulted an uproar with irate youths blocking the ever-busy highway in the area.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Loveth Odah, confirmed the killing of the Ebubeagu operative by unknown gunmen.
She explained that the Ebonyi Police Command has launched investigation into the incident to unravel those behind the gruesome killing.
Odah, while confirming the case, said: “Some gunmen went to one Sunday Nwafor’s house. Sunday Nwafor is about 30 years old and a member of Ebubeagu security outfit, Ikwo Local Government Area. The gunmen broke into his room while asleep and shot him dead. They dragged his body outside the room and beheaded him.
“The wife said before she heard a gunshot, she over-heard one of the hoodlums telling her husband that he left them in the bush and came back home to enjoy himself by collecting N30,000 from the government. Two suspects have been arrested. The investigation is ongoing. This act is barbaric and an act of inhumanity.
“The Commissioner of Police condemns this killing in its totality and has vowed to do everything within the ambit of the law to ensure that the remaining perpetrators are brought to book.”
The Ebonyi PPRO also confirmed the torture of Anyim in Akaeze by operatives of the Ebubeagu security outfit for alleged robbery.
The state police image maker, while condemning torturing of the deceased, disclosed that some victims of Anyim’s attack were currently at the state police clinic receiving treatment.
“Nobody has a right to take a life no matter the offense the person has committed. The police condemn jungle justice, self-help, brutality of any kind,” she said
Meanwhile, youths of Akaeze on Sunday morning reportedly attacked operatives of the security outfit in the area resulting palpable fear and tension in the area.
