The family of late Edo businessman and philanthropist, Capt. Idahosa Okunbo, on Saturday said that no fewer than100 public school students in Edo State would be offered scholarships in his honour.
His eldest daughter and wife Olu of Warri, Olori Atuwatse III, said this in Benin when she led her other siblings to the mausoleum of the late billionaire.
They were at the mausoleum to offer prayers to posthumously mark his 64th birthday.
Atuwatse said the scholarship was informed by their late father’s passion and support for education.
She said when finalised, the modalities for selecting the beneficiaries would be made available to public schools in the state.
The Olori further said that students from indigent families would be given priority in the selection process.
“We are going to pay school fees for 100 students in the memory of our father because he was very passionate about education.
“We are targeting primary and secondary school students in public schools in the state. Students whose parents are unable to pay their fees will be our priority”, she said.
It would be recalled that Okunbo died of pancreatic cancer on Aug. 8, 2021 in London and was buried on Oct. 8 in Benin.
