Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday inaugurated nine roads and a bridge to boost interconnectivity in Kosofe Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

Sanwo-Olu, during inauguration of the roads with a total length of 2.840km, said the project would serve a population of more than 300,000 people within the Soluyi-Araromi-Ifako-Gbagada communities.

He said the project would unite the three communities, tackle perennial flooding, boost economy of the area, enhance quality of lives and livelihoods, curb gridlock and boost interconnectivity.

According to him, the project will also serve as alternative route and a by-pass for motorists to link the Third Mainland Bridge and Apapa-Oworonsoki Expressway.

He said the project was awarded in September 2017 but no progress recorded until his administration took it over to completion.

Sanwo-Olu added that his administration had expended much in completing inherited projects while initiating new ones across different sectors to ensure wellbeing of residents.

He said that his administration would continue to upgrade road infrastructure while perfecting the expansion of transportation network to achieve its intermodal transport strategy to meet up with the ever-increasing population and rise in vehicular volumes and axle loads on roads.

“I want to implore the Community Development Association of this area to immediately assume ownership of and responsibility for the judicious use of these projects/roads.

“You must care for them with devotion and dedication, and keep them clean, and the drainage free of waste, at all times,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu also assured residents that issues of power supply raised by their various leadership would be sorted to ensure that already installed transformers in the area were energized.

He said that Taiwo Street which was recurrent among the requests for roads would be attended to in addition to other listed roads.

Sanwo-Olu announced the flag-off of construction of the Opebi-Ojota link Bridge in January while assuring adequate security during the Yuletide.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Mrs Aramide Adeyoye, said inauguration of the newly constructed nine roads and bridge revealed the doggedness and commitment of the Sanwo-Olu administration towards the Greater Lagos Agenda.

“In all of these the key cardinal focus of this administration in its policy on inclusiveness that ensures that no part the state is left behind in the quest to extend development to the inner parts of Lagos,” she said.

Adeyoye said prior to the construction, the only access in and out of Soluyi Community, Gbagada was via the ever busy Ayodele Okeowo Road abutting Deeper Christian Life Bible Church.

Lawmakers, Local Government chairmen, other leaders and stakeholders from the communities took turns to commend the governor for the project while drawing attention to other areas of need.
