Lionel Messi has set a new record after Inter Miami beat Cruz Azul 2-0 in the 2026 Campeones Cup.
The 39-year-old scored with a header in the match between the MLS and Liga MX champions.
His goal took his career finals tally to 36, making him the player with the most goals in finals in football history.
Messi has appeared in 53 finals throughout his career, scoring 36 goals and providing 18 assists.
The victory also marked his 100th goal for Inter Miami since joining the club in 2023.
He has made 115 appearances for the team with 100 goals and 57 assists.
Inter Miami has won four trophies since Messi arrived, including the 2023 Leagues Cup, 2024 MLS Supporters’ Shield, 2025 MLS Cup and 2026 Campeones Cup.
This brings his career trophy total to 48.
He leads the all-time list, followed by Brazilian defenders Marquinhos and Dani Alves who each have 43 titles.
At 39, Messi remains among the nominees for the 2026 Ballon d’Or after another season of individual records and trophies.
