The Edo State House of Assembly has elected Hon. Yekini Idiaye as its new Speaker following the resignation of Blessing Agbebaku.
Idiaye was elected during Monday’s plenary, presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Osamwonyi Atu.
Agbebaku resigned amid moves by some lawmakers to impeach him, with about 18 of the 24 members reportedly signing a notice seeking his removal.
Some of the lawmakers backing the move were reportedly among those who lost their chances of returning to the House next year.
Idiaye, one of the longest-serving members of the Assembly, represents Akoko Edo I Constituency in Edo North.
