Sunday Igboho Confirms Recovery of Injured Iru Ekun Operatives After Oyo Forest Ambush

Igboho made the disclosure in a video message released on Saturday, where he dismissed rumours circulating about his safety and assured supporters that he remains in good health

Yoruba Nation advocate, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has confirmed that members of his private security outfit, Iru Ekun, who sustained injuries during an ambush by suspected bandits in Oyo State, have fully recovered.

Igboho made the disclosure in a video message released on Saturday, where he dismissed rumours circulating about his safety and assured supporters that he remains in good health.

Igboho Dismisses Rumours, Assures Supporters

Addressing followers at home and abroad, Igboho said reports suggesting he was harmed were false, stressing that both he and the injured operatives were safe.

According to him, the affected members of the Iru Ekun security outfit have successfully recovered from the injuries sustained during the attack.

“I greet you, my fathers and mothers. It’s your son, Sunday Igboho. My brothers and sisters all over the world, today is the 28th of June, 2026.

“Rumours have been circulating, but I want to use this opportunity to assure all my loved ones across the world that I am safe.

“Those who sustained injuries have now recovered. We will not relent until those disturbing the peace of our land are driven out,” he stated.

Ambush Occurred During Security Operation

The incident occurred days earlier during an operation by Iru Ekun operatives inside the Old Oyo National Park.

Sources familiar with the operation said the team was conducting a mission to track suspected kidnappers and armed criminal groups believed to be operating within the forest reserve and surrounding communities.

Before advancing into the area, the operatives reportedly deployed surveillance drones to identify suspected hideouts and monitor the movement of armed groups.

Gun Battle Erupts in Forest Reserve

The operation reportedly escalated into a fierce gun battle after heavily armed attackers, suspected to be members of cross-border criminal networks, opened fire on the security team.

Several operatives sustained injuries during the exchange and were subsequently evacuated for medical treatment.

No fatalities were reported among the injured personnel.

Commitment to Tackling Insecurity

Despite the attack, Igboho maintained that the incident would not deter ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities in the region.

He reiterated his commitment to supporting security operations aimed at protecting residents and restoring peace in communities affected by criminal violence.

The development comes amid growing concerns over insecurity around forest reserves and rural communities in parts of southwestern Nigeria.
