Rivers State Internal Revenue Service, RIRS, has extended the deadline for filing annual personal income tax returns to April 17, 2026.
This was disclosed in a public notice on Wednesday, and signed by the Executive Chairman, Sir Israel Egbunefu.
Egbunefu said the extension is aimed at boosting compliance and giving defaulters more time to meet their obligations.
He urged all taxable persons, including public and private sector employees, business owners, self-employed individuals and professionals, to take advantage of the window to file their 2025 Year of Assessment returns.
He directed all taxpayers to direct and submit their returns through the official portal of the service.
While offering temporary relief, Egbunefu warned that failure to comply before the new deadline would attract penalties as prescribed by law, adding that the move is part of efforts to deepen tax compliance and strengthen internally generated revenue in Rivers State.
