The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has expressed its determination to support Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

A statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Hon Debo Ologunagba, said that Senator Bala Mohammed, Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Bauchi State Governor, made the revelation at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt.

The PDP national leadership has fixed February 22, 2025, to hold congresses to elect party leaders in the North East, South East, and South South zones.

The party will also hold congresses for the North Central and South West zones on March 22, 2025, to elect party leaders for those regions.

According to the statement, Governor Mohammed said, “Fubara has proven himself a true democrat, who, against all odds, has pushed through with decisions and actions to deepen democracy.”

Mohammed further explained that the Rivers State Governor has been proactive, with an open mind, deploying his democratic instincts and strategies to carefully deliver democratic governance at the local government level, irrespective of party allegiance or consideration.

The chairman stated that Rivers State is a PDP state, even though the newly sworn-in local government chairmen and councillors are from different political parties, describing it as a challenge faced by both the party and its governors.

He said that Fubara, who is the Vice Chairman of the forum, remains an avowed member of the PDP despite the fact that other parties constitute the body of elected officers at the local government level.

He emphasized that the Governor of Rivers State is still with them, still a PDP member. On behalf of the governors, he came to show solidarity with him for the very proactive democratic instincts Fubara has developed, which represent a new manifestation in the Nigerian political arena—where he has intensified efforts and developed strategies to deliver governance irrespective of party allegiance or consideration.
