Barely three months before the Edo State gubernatorial election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign committee says its candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, if elected governor, will address the wrongs of the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration.

Prince Kassim Afegbua, media consultant to the campaign council, made the promise on Sunday in Benin City.

No less than 16 political parties are fielding candidates for the Edo State governorship election, scheduled for September 21, 2024.

Afegbua, who urged the people of the state to reject the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, added that Senator Monday Okpebholo, if elected, would focus on five critical areas of the state’s socioeconomic sectors that need urgent attention.

He listed the areas to include agriculture, health, education, human capital development, environmental protection and safety and security architecture.

“A vote for Senator Monday Okpebholo would put an end to capital flights, which have been synonymous with the PDP-led administration in the state.

“Indigenous contractors have been strangulated under Obaseki’s administration. Briefcase contractors are imported into the state to undertake jobs instead of encouraging our businesses.

“The APC candidate, Okpebholo, is a man known to the people. He contested the 2023 election in his senatorial district and defeated an incumbent PDP senator. That was a testament to his acceptance by the people.

“Edo State must rise again, free itself from the snares of under-development, and, in freedom, work with a man who will promote collective enterprise for the overall good of our people,” he said.
