Nigerian artist Adekunle Gold believes that his colleague Timi Dakolo’s song ‘Great Nation’ would have been a better national anthem than the previous one that the country reverted to.

According to Metrowatch, President Bola Tinubu signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law on Wednesday, which reinstates the old anthem “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.”

Adekunle Gold reacted by questioning why the people in charge did not consider Timi Dakolo’s ‘Great Nation’ as the country’s new anthem.

On his X handle, he wrote: “No one thought Timi Dakolo’s Great Nation makes a better anthem?”

His post got different reactions below:

@jachukwu wrote, “If they were truly looking for an anthem that will steer up patriotism and love for the country it would have been that song.”

@CarmillaXander said, “Absolutely yes, that song could make the least patriotic Nigerian stand up and go ‘sasageyo’.”

@Tyekooon opined, “The lyrics are too deep for an unserious country, hence.”

@xybox wrote, “It would make a beautiful anthem.

“When these old meddling politicians have left this world, I hope the future legislators will denounce this colonial special number of theirs and adopt ‘Great Nation’.”
