Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has increased the minimum wage for workers in the State from N40,000 to N70,000.
The governor made the announcement, Monday at the commissioning of the newly built ultra-modern Labour House (secretariat complex) for labour unions in the State, in Benin City.
According to him, the new minimum wage regime will come into effect as from May 1, 2024, during this year’s Workers’ Day.
Until now, Edo state has been paying N40,000 as minimum wage, N10,000 more than the National Minimum Wage of N30,000.
This is the second time that Governor Obaseki has increased minimum wage in the state.
The first time was about 2021 when he raised the wage from N30,000 to N40,000.
