Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, will open the first online passport application portal in Abuja today (Monday).

On Friday, he revealed this during a presentation of the website with Caroline Adepoju, Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service.

According to Tunji, an online passport application platform for both international and Nigerian applicants has been built.

The minister stated in December that the federal government was trying to implement a fully automated passport application system in the country.

At the time, the minister stated that the automated application system was “99 percent done,” and that the procedure would entail submitting passport images and supporting documentation.

Nigerian applicants seeking 32-page passports with a five-year validity period would pay N25,000, while those seeking 64-page passports with a ten-year validity period would pay N70,000.

Foreign applicants seeking passports with a five-year validity term and 32 pages will pay $130, while those seeking passports with a ten-year validity period and 64 pages will pay $230. Candidates must apply online at https://passport.immigration.gov.ng.
