Chairman of Sterling Bank Plc and Edo State 2024 governorship hopeful, Asue Ighodalo, has visited his Okaigben community kinsmen. Okaigben is in Ewohimi, Esan South East Local Government Area of the state.
Asue, who is a Lagos-based businessman and driving force behind Governor Godwin Obaseki’s poster programme, Alaghodaro, was in his village on Wednesday, November 29, 2023.
In a trending video of the visit, Asue, largely believed to be Obaseki’s preferred aspirant for the state’s number-one job, addressed his kinsmen through an interpreter.
A politician, who has watched the video, told metrowatchxtra.com on the condition of anonymity: “This is Gov. Obaseki’s backed Esan governorship aspirant, Asue Ighodalo, on his maiden visit to his community with an engaged interpreter.
“He cannot speak his Ishan language. He is indeed a stranger in PDP, a stranger in his community and a stranger in Edo state.
Another wrote: “Edo 2024 Guber Race: Obaseki Recreates Icheoku with Asue Ighodalo.”
He explained that: “Icheoku was one comedy programme that enjoyed monopoly in the 1980’s in terms of format and rib-cracking humour.
“It featured a translator wrongly interpreting the words of a white British magistrate during a court session, to an audience that did not understand English.
“The format of Icheoku is still used by many Nigerian comedians till today. Another Political Scam loading.”
