The Super Eagles rallied to hold Zimbabwe to a 1-1 draw in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matchday two fixture at the Huye Stadium, Butare, on Sunday afternoon.
The Warriors sat back early on allowing the Super Eagles to dictate the pace of the game.
The first chance of the game came Nigeria’s way with Terem Moffi failing to connect Moses Simon’s cross.
Walter Musona gave the hosts the lead on the 26th minute.
The Sekhukhune United forward’s free kick from outside the box sailed into net.
Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro made three changes after the break with Bright Osayi-Samuel, Kelechi Iheanacho and Victor Boniface replacing Ola Aina, Frank Onyeka and Nathan Tella.
However, Zimbabwe gained confidence after the break and started taking the game to the Super Eagles.
Substitute Iheanacho equalised for the Super Eagles 25 minutes from time.
The Super Eagles have now amassed two points from two games.
Jose Peseiro’s side will host the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in their next game in the qualifiers, in June 2024.
