The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has ordered the demolition of structures encroaching on drainage setbacks in Ikoyi, starting on Monday, October 30.
Wahab disclosed this in a post on his X handle on Sunday.
According to him, during an inspection on Sunday, he observed disregard for the contravention notices sent to property owners whose structures were on the drainage setback.
His caption read, “During the inspection tour of Awolowo Road, Norman Williams, and Kanike close drainage channel earlier today, I noticed the brazen disregard for the contravention notices served on the property owners whose properties fell within the drainage setback.
“I have instructed that the illegal structures be removed tomorrow, Monday.
“This inspection exercise was to ascertain the level of compliance and it is discouraging to see that just a few homeowners have complied while a larger percentage have not made any move regarding the matter despite several meetings held with the property owners.
“I also inspected the ongoing intervention exercise for the restoration of the Blue Line Right of Way corridor along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway to check the level of compliance.
“Thereafter, I visited the closed Alaba Rago market, where I met with the executives of the market to ascertain compliance with the checklist handed to the market.”
