•Ministerial nominee, Balarabe Abbas Lawal slumps during Senate's screening

A ministerial nominee, Balarabe Abbas Lawal from Kaduna State, slumped while being screened by the Senate on Wednesday.

The nominee — who replaces former Governor Nasir el-Rufai, had spoken for some minutes during his screening before falling to the floor with several lawmakers rushing to his aid.

He was the second nominee out of the three new nominees of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be screened.

The 65-year-old had finished making his presentation to the lawmakers and was about taking questions from them when he fell to the floor.

The Senate immediately went into emergency closed-door session while efforts are being made to revive the nominee who is still inside the chamber.
