The government of Osun State has urged dog owners in the state to train their animals or risk legal action.
This warning follows a dog attack that resulted in the death of an infant in the Osogbo neighborhood of Halleluyah Estate in August.
The vicious-looking canines also hurt the mother of the five-month-old infant girl during the attack.
The warning was issued by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Tola Faseru while meeting with dog breeders, owners and veterinary outfits in the State.
Faseru had stated during the meeting that the State would not condone dogs unleashing terror on residents.
In his words, “Henceforth, dog owners will face necessary disciplinary action in line with the dictates of the law if any of their dogs is found culpable.
“The rate at which unlicensed dogs roam the streets aimlessly is unfortunate.
“It is now compulsory for all veterinary outfits to ensure that they are registered with the State government.”
He also revealed that the State government had put in place plans to ensure that all dogs must get an anti-rabies vaccination certificate.
“The certificates must be duly signed by a certified veterinarian,” he said.
