The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday named the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and immediate-past Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike as a member of the party’s campaign council for Bayelsa governorship election slated for November 11, 2023.
This is coming barely a month after Wike, who has not resigned as a member of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, was listed alongside others as a member of the PDP campaign council for the same Bayelsa governorship election on August 1.
In a circular on Tuesday, the APC announced the composition of the Bayelsa Governorship Campaign Council with the primary purpose of leading the gubernatorial campaign in Bayelsa State and ensuring the triumph of the party at the November 11 gubernatorial election, and with Wike as member.
It is not immediately clear how Wike, who was recently sworn in as a minister by President Bola Tinubu, even as a card-carrying member of the PDP, will combine or function in the two separate campaign councils of two different political parties for same election, leaving political observers in a state of confusion.
Meanwhile, the APC listed the Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya as the chairman of the party’s governorship campaign council in Bayelsa with the Minster of Defence, Abubakar Badaru; Senate President, Godsdwill Akpabio and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume as co-chairmen.
