The 3-0 loss to Manchester City in Burnley’s opening Premier League match has been discussed by manager Vincent Kompany.

On Friday night, the Clarets were unable to produce anything for their home supporters.

Rodri added a third goal in the second half after Erling Haaland had already scored two goals to give Pep Guardiola’s team a perfect score.

For Kompany, there is no shame in losing to the title holders.

He told Sky Sports: “You can surprise the main man [Guardiola] sometimes, but he is the one that surprises the most.

“There’s nothing more than committing to an idea and a game plan. Then in the game, we concede after three minutes and you have to live with the consequences.

“We had that spell in the first half where we created dangerous possession, chances and recovered balls in dangerous areas. And another spell in the second half.

“Those moments where you have momentum you have to do something and we were dangerous but not dangerous enough. Against the best team in the world, it is always going to be difficult.

“I said to the team before the game, you want the result, everyone does, but you want to get something out of the game, a moment a tackle, something to build on.”
