The governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has introduced a new transportation program as part of efforts to lessen the pain of commuters brought on by the elimination of fuel subsidy.

The governor said that the effort was his administration’s attempt to enhance the transportation industry during the introduction of 100 taxis and six luxury buses on Wednesday at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall premises, Yenagoa.

As we introduce this fleet of transportation vehicles to ease our people’s suffering, it is another historic day.

“Now, we have taxis that will run within the city of Yenagoa and environs to the Niger Delta University at Amassoma, to the airport and the Federal University, Otuoke and other towns,” he said.

The Bayelsa State Transport Company’s General Manager, Chief Timi Fanama, received the keys to the cars from Governor Diri, who urged the management to make good use of the vehicles to improve the transportation system.
