Tobi Amusan, who holds the world record for women’s hurdles, said on Wednesday morning that she has been accused of breaking an alleged anti-doping regulation.
Amusan also promised to get the accusations against her dropped before the tournament, which will take place in Budapest the following month.
This was revealed by the 26-year-old Nigerian athlete in a post on her Instagram page.
She said, “Today the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has charged me with an alleged rule violation for having 3 missed tests in 12 months.
“I intend to fight this charge and will have my case decided by a tribunal of 3 arbitrators before the start of next month’s World Championships.”
The most recent development has raised questions about Amusan’s ability to compete in the international championships later this month.
At the 2017 World Athletics Championships, Amusan ran the 100-meter hurdles in 12.12 seconds, which is the current world record.
