Mr Adaze Emwanta, a former Commissioner of Communication and Orientation under Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Emwanta announced his resignation in a letter dated June 14, 2023 and addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in his Egor Local Government Area (LGA) of Edo.

He also announced the withdrawal of his earlier application letter to serve as the Commissioner representing Egor in the State Exco earlier submitted to the Governor.

The ex-Commissioner said he is quitting the PDP due to the “perennial crisis” rocking the party in his Egor LGA as well as what he described as visible under-development of the once great local council area.

According to him, the crisis rocking the PDP in Egor local council “is being orchestrated by external forces, particularly those in Osadebe Avenue (Edo Government House).”

Adaze noted that during the party’s last caucus meeting in the LGA, he volunteered to sacrifice his Commissioner return slot for peace to reign in the Egor local council area.

“Sadly, things have become worse with the imposition of a local Godfather on us and this is not acceptable to me,” Emwanta, who is also a legal practitioner, noted.

Emwanta first served as Commissioner of Communication and Orientation but was later moved to the Ministry of Youth and Gender Affairs when Governor Obaseki reshuffled the Exco.

His resignation from the PDP is coming barely days after another chieftain of the party, Ken Imasuagbon, better known as Rice Man, dumped the PDP for the Labour Party ahead of the Edo 2024 governorship race.
