Voting has begun for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives for the 10th National Assembly.
There are three contestants in the race, with the winner expected to defeat the others by a simple majority.
After a roll-call of lawmakers-elect, 359 out of 360 members are participating in the process.
Earlier, the Green Chamber adopted the open voting procedure which allows members-elect to openly declare their choice candidate orally, with the Clark of the National Assembly calling out the lawmakers-elect based on alphabetical order of their states.
Aspirants in the race are Tajudeen Abbas (APC-Zaria), Aminu Sani Jaji and Idris Wase, former Deputy Speaker.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) had chosen Abbas as its candidate for speaker, with other aspirants except for Wase and Jaja withdrawing from the race.
