Tajudeen Abbas, All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker representing Zaria federal constituency of Kaduna State, has been elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives for the 10th National Assembly.

He defeated his opponents from the same APC: Ahmed Idris Wase (Plateau), outgoing Speaker, and Aminu Sani Jaji (Zamfara), who both contested against him.

Abbas polled 353 votes, the highest votes cast in the open ballot voting procedure to emerge Speaker of the 10th Lower Legislative Chamber.

Wase and Jaji polled 3 votes each.

President Bola Tinubu and the APC had endorsed Abbas as the party’s candidate for Speaker, with other aspirants except for Wase and Jaji withdrawing from the race.
