The Ondo State House of Assembly, on Saturday, elected a new Speaker and Deputy to lead the state parliament for the new political dispensation, following a proclamation of the 10th Assembly by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

While Olamide Oladiji, the lawmaker representing Ondo East Constituency, emerged as the new Speaker of the 26-member state parliament unopposed, Abayomi Akinruntan, representing Ilaje Constituency I, was elected as the Deputy Speaker.

Their emergence as principal officers of the State Assembly followed the dissolution of the 9th Assembly. Both the new speaker and his deputy are members of the governor’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

METROWATCHXTRA.COM reports that the new speaker, Oladiji will now take over from the outgoing speaker, Bamidele Oleyelogun David, whose tenure elapsed on Friday. David was earlier rumoured to have resigned, a report he would later deny.

Meanwhile, the new speaker, Oladiji has vowed to ensure good ties between the legislative and the executive, while praising Governor Akeredolu for his “capable leadership”.

He assured the House that the 10th Assembly under his leadership would fulfil its legislative obligations.
