Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester City, has acknowledged that Erling Haaland’s record-breaking rookie season of goal-scoring has astonished everyone on the team.

During Man City’s Premier League victory at Fulham, Haaland notched his 50th goal of the year.

The international player for Norway is one goal away from breaking an existing Premier League record.

Man City will face West Ham United on Wednesday and one more strike will take Haaland ahead of Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole’s 34 goals per season.

Speaking ahead of Man City’s clash with West Ham on Wednesday, Guardiola said about Haaland: “It’s a surprise for all of us, maybe not for him because he’s done it in a different league. He does it for the success of the team.

“Of course, it is good for him and the team – it is a good sign, the magnitude of the record and it’s not been broken for a long time. All will be broken one day. I am pretty sure he will score more in the Premier League from now until the end of the season.”
