Bruno Saltor, Chelsea’s interim head coach, has revealed that he has “never chosen a squad before” ahead of his team’s Premier League match against Liverpool on Tuesday night.

Saltor was appointed interim manager of Chelsea after Graham Potter was fired on Sunday night.

He just started coaching under Potter a few years ago, after retiring as a professional footballer at Brighton.

The 42-year-old followed Potter to Chelsea earlier this season.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Monday ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League tie with Liverpool, Saltor said: “I have been coaching for four years and have been coaching under Graham.

“He has been the manager and he always had the last word. It is quite clear that it has not been the case [Bruno picking a team]. Tomorrow is going to be the first time.

“I feel good. It is my duty and responsibility. I’m at a really important club and I want to try my best.”

He added, “If I am here right now, it’s because Graham and the club thought it was the right step and I am here just trying to help the club and trying to be the most professional I can.”
