Polls: Lawan wins 5th Senate seat, Gbajabiamila wins sixth Reps’ term

Senate President Ahmad Lawan has won the Senatorial election for Yobe North, in Yobe State, for the fifth consecutive term, during the Saturday’s national assembly election.

Similarly, Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has been re-elected to represent Surulere 1 federal constituency of Lagos state for the sixth consecutive term into the green chamber.

Their electoral victory were announced separately by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presiding officers in their respective states.

Lawan of the APC polled 91,318 votes, representing 74.7 per cent of the total valid votes (122,193), to defeat his closest rival, Bello Ilu of PDP who polled 22,849 votes.

Before his fifth term in the Senate, Lawan who was first elected into the National Assembly in 1999, was in the House of Representatives for two terms.

For Gbajabiamila, the Reps’ speaker who is a member of the APC polled 19,717 votes to defeat his closest rival, Bosun Jeje of the PDP who garnered 5,121 votes.

Gbajabiamila was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2003 and has won elections in the subsequent five election cycles including Saturday’s.
