More communities in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have endorsed the Social Democratic Party (SDP), candidate for Ogbia Federal Constituency, Daniel Iworiso-Markson.
Receiving the SDP candidate and his campaign team in their communities, the people declared that on February 25, they will come out enmasse to cast their votes for him and ensure that he emerge as the winner of the election.
Explaining their unanimous decision, they stressed that Iworiso-Markson represents a breathe of fresh air and the new Ogbia they have envisioned for a long time.
Reiterating their support for the former Commissioner for Information and Orientation in the state, the people lamented that those jostling the position with him have failed them in the past and cannot be trusted again.
Those who spoke on behalf of the communities, stated that even as Chief Press Secretary to the Governor and later Commissioner, Iworiso-Markson did not disappoint them as he was not only accessible but carried out a lot of philantrophy across Ogbia.
Speaking during the community to community campaign in all the communities in constituency 1, Iworiso-Markson thanked the people for the overwhelming show of love and support.
While emphasizing his New Deal agenda, the SDP flagbearer said he will ensure that Ogbia Federal Constituency becomes a refrence point for other constituencies in the country when elected.
In an interview with journalists, he said: “You can see for yourself the massive endorsement given to my candidacy. The people are yearning for change. They are tired of the failed promises of candidates of the two big parties in the state.
“You heard them vowed never to vote for any of the two big parties. They are more concerned about the person not the party. They are looking at character, competence, capacity and proven track record. They are all in agreement that I am the best candidate to represent them.
“The people of Ogbia are a lot wiser now. They are all united in their resolve to vote SDP for House of Representative.
“Our community to community campaign is yielding the desired results. Our New Deal campaign message to deliver jobs to our teeming unemployed youths in Ogbia is very key. The exclusion of young people from the labour force perpetuate generational cycles of poverty.
“It is the very thing that breaks down social cohesion and can be associated with higher levels of crime and violence among idle youths”.
Continuing he said: “As representative of the good people of Ogbia in the green chambers I must make concerted effort to improve business opportunities in Ogbia to support employment, foster innovation, and increase economic activities in the federal constituency.
“Each of the three constituencies that make up Ogbia federal constituency will be job hubs targeted at nano- and micro-businesses to stimulate productivity, improve inclusion for all kinds of businesses, and encourage informal-sector service providers to formalize their operations.
“We will ensure that it allows more microentrepreneurs access to startup infrastructure and incubation with mentoring along different value chains”.
The constituency 1 communities visited were Otuegila, Otakeme, Otabi, Otabagi, Abobiri, Otuogidi, Ogbia Town, Oloibiri, Emakalala, Otuabula 2, Ewoi, Otuaba and Otueke.
The SDP community to community campaign train will finally anchor at constituency 2, as it visits communities in Ward 5 and subsequent visits to the other three wards in the Ayama axis of the area.
