Former Nigerian legislator Shehu Sani has reacted to Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s closure of a commercial mall for refusing to accept obsolete Naira notes.

Sani complained that the punishment was excessively severe.

On Sunday, he made the announcement using his verified Twitter profile.

On Ganduje’s orders, the Kano Consumer Protection Council, KCPC, shut down the WellCare retail complex for refusing to accept obsolete Naira notes.

According to KCPC, the WellCare stores refused to accept outdated naira notes from consumers, despite state government orders to do so.

The council also stated that the supermarket will face legal action.

On the other hand, Sani has called the supermarket’s treatment authoritarian.

“Kano State shutting down a Mall because of the rejection of old Naira notes is repressive,” he tweeted.
