The Department of State Security, DSS, has taken over the office of Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, at the apex bank’s headquarters.
The beleaguered CBN governor has been at odds with the DSS over potential terrorist financing.
The DSS had previously sought a court order to arrest Emefiele, who had been on leave from the nation.
However, in December 2022, the FCT High Court forbade the secret service from arresting, inviting, or detaining Emefiele.
On Monday afternoon, DSS attacked CBN headquarters with 20 cars loaded with armed troops.
The operatives also barred all staff of the bank from gaining access to Mr Emefiele’s office.
