Amid the crisis rocking the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governor of Rivers State, Barr. Nyesom Wike has declared that the party cannot win the 2023 presidential election without his support.

The Governor said he and the four other PDP governors in his camp play an important role in the party; and as such, the PDP cannot win elections without them.

He was referring to Governors Samuel Ortom, Seyi Makinde, Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Benue, Oyo, Abia and Enugu States respectively.

metrowatchxtra reports that the G5 (Group of 5) Governors have been calling for the removal of Senator Iyorchia Ayu as PDP’s National Chairman.

Wike spoke during a media chat in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Friday.

The five governors had insisted that PDP’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and National Chairman, Ayu cannot come from the same region.

According to Wike, PDP won some states due to his financial support and as such, cannot do without his support.

His words, “If I leave the party today, the PDP cannot win the election. If the five PDP governors say they are leaving today, we are not just ordinary governors, we are very committed and strong.

“There is nobody that wants to win an election and still continue the way they are doing. I have supported many states financially to win elections in the past, including Plateau, Ondo, and Cross Rivers and they cannot deny it”.
