Edevbie vs Oborevwori: No Cause for Alarm, PDP is Endemic in Delta, Says Elekeokwuri
By Andrew Ikehi
Despite the seeming internal squabbles within the Delta State chapter of the People’s Democratic party (PDP), one of the party’s stalwarts and member representing Ika North East State Constituency, Hon Anthony Emeka Elekeokwuri says there is no cause for alarm, stressing that PDP is endemic in the State.
Speaking in an interview with our correspondent in Asaba at the weekend, the lawmaker who spoke on the sideline of the 2023 general elections, expressed optimism that despite the current challenge in the party, Delta will still maintain its position “as a PDP State”.
He told our correspondent that whichever way the supreme court ruling tilts towards, the party would definitely align, saying; ” PDP is a family and we know how to resolve our issues amicably”.
It would be recalled that the supreme court had on Friday, September 30, fixed further hearing on the case between Olorogun David Edevbie and Chief Sheriff Oborevwori to October 12, this year.
It would be further recalled that following a suit by Olorogun David Edevbie, the Federal High Court presided over by Justice Taiwo Taiwo declared Chief Sheriff Oborevwori unqualified to have participated in the Delta State PDP Governorship primary due to inconsistencies in his name and age and not possessing the minimum qualification.
The legal battle between both PDP faithful which rose from the Federal high court, appellate court and now at the supreme court has raised palpable fears that unless an amicable solution is found, the party risks going into next year’s election; a situation that Elekeokwuri dismissed, saying that the party is on top of the matter.
While saying that Delta cannot afford to lose PDP, Elekeokwuri who is the Chairman, House committee on public Accounts said that the party is not only poised to retain power in the State, but working assiduously to oust the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from Aso Rock in order “to enthrone good governance and put to an end the current sufferings Nigerians are going through”.
He therefore, called on Nigerians, particularly the youths to join the rescue Nigeria project of the Atiku -Okowa agenda in order to enthrone what he called people -oriented governance.
“I understand the yearnings of the youths in this country. They are crying for employment, good governance, security inclusiveness and participation in decision making.
“To achieve this, the youths should brace up to vote out bad leaders and vote in good leaders. If we are able to do this, we would have succeeded in sending messages to bad leaders who are not ready to change for the better.
“It is high time we stopped voting base on ethnicity, zoning and religious affiliations. At this critical time in our nation, we should be ready to vote for somebody with experience, somebody with capacity and who can do the job, fight the fight and take Nigerians out of the woods.
“There is a lot of hope for this nation. This can be achieved when we have good and credible leaders.
“The APC led government has taken us back over 60 years and it is appalling that they are coming on national television to canvass for votes. On what condition would somebody vote for a system that has brought us into this present quagmire” Elekeokwuri queries.
