The Rivers State Governor, Barr. Nyesom Wike, on Thursday, insisted that Sen. Iyorchia Ayu must step down as the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Wike was reacting to the resignation of Sen. Walid Jibrin as Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustee (BoT), metrowatchxtra reports.
He spoke at the commissioning of the Ahoada Campus of the Rivers State University in the company of his Oyo State counterpart, Engr. Seyi Makinde.
According to him, Jibrin’s resignation as BoT chairman wasn’t enough as his position in the party was simply an advisory role.
Wike said the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, told him in person when he won the party’s primary that Ayu must vacate his position.
The governor said the resignation of Walid Jibril as the Board of Trustees chairman won’t stop his demand for Ayu’s removal.
He said the issue at hand is that of justice and fairness, saying having produced the presidential candidate of the party, the north should not also hold on to the chairmanship of the party.
“This is what I don’t like, ‘Enough is Enough’ they have told the BoT Chairman to resign, who is talking about BoT Chairman, what all of us agreed is the National Chairman of the party must go, the role of BoT is advisory,” Wike thundered.
