•Mr. Adetiran

‘…Youths obey the clarion call!’. The composer of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) anthem, Dr Oluwole Adetiran, is dead.

Late Adetiran obeyed the ultimate clarion call on Friday at age 74.

Multiple members of the Celestial Church of Christ where the deceased worshiped until his demise, confirmed the development to newsmen.

Last year, Adetiran explained that he had been inflicted with multiple diseases, including hypertension, diabetes and prostate cancer since 2018.

He composed the scheme’s anthem in 1984.

Adediran, who studied music at University of Nigeria, Nsuka (UNN), recalled that he composed the anthem while serving as a corps member in Oyo State.

Until his demise, the NYSC anthem composer was the National Music Director of Celestial Church of Christ.

Adetiran had served as the Head of Music Department of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, between 2003 and 2007 before his retirement from the institution in 2008.

Last year, NYSC Director-General, Maj.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim led a high-powered delegation of the scheme to the residence of Adetiran at Ibafo in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun state and pledged that Adetiran’s photograph would be conspicuously placed in the newly-built NYSC museum in Abuja.
