•Gov Douye Diri of Bayelsa State

The Bayelsa State Government has offered scholarship and immediate employment to four children of the late women leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogbia Local Government Area of the state, Dame Gloria Igbeta.

Governor Douye Diri made the pronouncement on Saturday during Dame Igbeta’s funeral service at Otuasega community in Ogbia Local Government Area.

Governor Diri described the late female politician as a woman of integrity and strong principles.

According to the governor, the deceased was a committed member of the PDP and worked for the success of the party in the face of temptation to renege on her principles.

He urged people to emulate her stable character, which endeared her to many as attested to by the number of people that came to pay their last respects.

While condoling with the family, Governor Diri urged them to take solace that she died as a believer who led a good life.

His words: “She was a serious activist of our party; a serious supporter of our Prosperity Government.

“This was a woman of character, a woman of honour, a woman of integrity, who stood by what she believed in and worked in what she believed in. Even in the face of temptation, she stood by our party in thick and thin.

“Let us all learn from our late sister and the value she added to society. To be stable, to have character and honour.

“In recognition of the role she has played and the support she gave to the party and government till the last day of her life, the Prosperity Government will undertake the training of her two children that are still in school.

“I also learnt that two of her children are engineers. As a state in need of professional engineers, I hereby direct the Head of Service to give automatic employment to them.”

In his remarks, brother of the late women leader, Mr Christian Igbeta, thanked the governor and the PDP for their support to the bereaved family.

Madam Igbeta died as a result of a fatal road accident in Yenagoa, which also claimed the lives of eight others on December 4.
